What can KrisFlyer miles book?
KrisFlyer is Singapore Airlines' loyalty program. Its miles can be redeemed for eligible Singapore Airlines flights and awards on partner airlines. An outright flight redemption differs from upgrading a paid ticket or applying miles as part payment. Start with the redemption search that matches the product you want, then inspect the actual operating flights.
The program is particularly relevant when researching Singapore Airlines premium cabins. Recent independent guides discuss differences in availability between KrisFlyer and partner programs, but no program name guarantees a seat. Confirm your exact departure, cabin and traveler count in the issuing program before treating an itinerary as bookable.
Compare Saver, Advantage and Access correctly
Singapore's official FAQ distinguishes Saver and Advantage award inventory from Access redemption. Saver and Advantage use the relevant award-chart requirements; Access pricing depends on seat availability and is displayed in the booking flow. Access is an additional way to secure eligible Singapore-operated seats rather than another fixed low-price award band.
Read the conditions associated with the selected option, including stopovers and changes. The official FAQ also warns that different cabins on an itinerary can affect the final requirement. A Suites or First label does not mean every connecting flight has that cabin, so inspect the aircraft and cabin on each segment before accepting a premium redemption.
Check waitlists and traveler nominees early
A waitlist is a request for a seat that is not currently confirmed. Singapore's waitlist FAQ says unsuccessful redemption waitlists are canceled two weeks before departure; eligible requests can clear earlier when seats become available. Access has no waitlist option, and Star Alliance redemption bookings do not offer waitlists under the current FAQ.
There are account checks too. Singapore says newly enrolled members need a minimum miles balance to search redemptions but does not publish the threshold. Its current FAQ also restricts near-term bookings for newly added or replaced redemption nominees. Create and verify the account and intended travelers before depending on a last-minute redemption, and consult current nominee instructions rather than assuming a miles transfer resolves every booking restriction.
How to book a KrisFlyer redemption
Use AwardTool for discovery, then confirm through Singapore Airlines. Be explicit about whether you are accepting an immediately confirmable award, an Access fare or a waitlist request.
Prepare account access and nominees
Sign in, check your miles balance and verify that the intended travelers can be selected. Review any new-account or nominee restrictions before initiating a bank transfer.
Search Redeem flights
Enter the complete itinerary and party size with Redeem flights selected. Compare Saver, Advantage and Access where offered; inspect every cabin and whether the displayed option is confirmed or waitlisted.
Review conditions and issue
Check the final miles, taxes, service conditions and any stopover selections. Complete payment for a confirmed option and verify ticket numbers. If joining a waitlist, retain the request details and follow the program's confirmation instructions.
Check expiry and refund conditions before funding
For a U.S. bank transfer, verify the current rate and processing terms for your rewards account. Singapore's FAQ says converted credit-card points must be credited to the principal cardholder's own KrisFlyer or PPS Club account. A recipient-name mismatch or nominee issue should therefore be resolved before funds are moved.
KrisFlyer miles have validity rules that matter to cancellation. Singapore's FAQ conditions mileage refunds on the validity of the miles and ticket and on the award being wholly unused; service and no-show fees can apply. Do not assume canceling a ticket renews an expiring balance. Check the current account expiry information and selected fare rules, particularly when committing miles to a journey still awaiting confirmation.
Common questions
Is Access the same as an Advantage award?
No. Singapore distinguishes Access, whose miles requirement depends on availability, from Saver and Advantage awards. Access shares certain fare conditions with Advantage but has its own availability and pricing model.
Does transferring miles guarantee my waitlist will clear?
No. A waitlist is not a confirmed seat. Singapore states that confirmation depends on seats becoming available and that unsuccessful redemption waitlists are canceled before departure under its published deadline.
Can a brand-new KrisFlyer account search every award immediately?
Not necessarily. Singapore's current FAQ states that newly enrolled members need a minimum balance to search, without disclosing the threshold. Nominee restrictions can separately affect booking.
