A useful hotel promotion does not have to be dramatic. The Points Guy’s September 1 update drew attention to Hyatt’s rolling new-hotel bonus, which can add points to a stay you already planned. We checked the coverage and Hyatt’s official terms on September 5, 2026.
The overlooked award-stay angle
Hyatt’s offer awards 500 bonus points per qualifying night at participating new hotels. Its terms allow an eligible paid rate or a free-night award, require the member’s loyalty number at check-in and limit the bonus to one occupied room per member per night. No separate registration is required.
The Points Guy explicitly notes that stays using Hyatt points or free-night certificates can qualify. Its September update lists properties across several regions, including Hyatt Regency London Olympia and Hyatt House Portland Airport. Check Hyatt’s current property list for the hotel and dates you are considering.
| Qualifying nights | Bonus points |
|---|---|
| 1 | 500 |
| 3 | 1,500 |
| 5 | 2,500 |
Check the checkout date
Hyatt ties eligibility to checkout within the individual hotel’s offer period. A property appearing on the list does not mean that every future stay qualifies. The official terms say to allow three to four weeks after travel for the bonus to post.
Our suggestion is to keep the hotel’s offer window beside your reservation dates. A quick screenshot of the relevant terms and the booking details can make a later missing-points query easier to explain. Record which room the member occupies if your party is booking several.

Use it as a tie-breaker
Start with the reasons you need a hotel: location, room setup, transport and a price you can justify. Once two options both meet those needs, the bonus becomes a useful extra. It is less persuasive if reaching the participating hotel adds a long commute or makes the daily plan awkward.
An illustrative comparison makes this concrete. Suppose one hotel fits your itinerary perfectly and another requires an extra taxi each day. Write the extra transport cost alongside the bonus points. Avoid assigning the bonus an impressive cash value while leaving the real spending out of the comparison.
For an award stay that already works, a bonus posting afterward is a welcome addition. Keep it separate from the points required upfront: expected bonus points are not part of the balance available to pay for the reservation today.
