SAS EuroBonus guide: SAS awards, SkyTeam partners and booking

EuroBonus has fixed-price SAS award seats, partner awards and regular tickets paid with points. Identify the ticket type before comparing prices, flexibility or the value of a bank transfer.

THE QUICK ANSWER

At a glance

  • SAS award seats and regular tickets bought with points are different products.
  • Current partner booking guidance is built around eligible SkyTeam travel.
  • Partner one-way pricing and airline-specific exceptions need checking.
  • Points + Cash uses regular ticket conditions rather than automatically becoming an award.

What is SAS EuroBonus?

EuroBonus is SAS’ loyalty program. Members can redeem points for eligible SAS and airline-partner travel, including SkyTeam partner awards under the current program. Older Star Alliance booking instructions should not be used as the basis for a new EuroBonus award without checking today’s supported partners.

The program offers more than one way to pay with points. Fixed-price SAS award seats, partner award seats and regular tickets purchased partly or fully with points do not share every rule. Distinguishing them is essential before comparing a price or deciding how much flexibility a booking provides.

Find the award product inside a points search

SAS describes its designated award seats as fixed-price by destination and travel class. Its points-search guidance explains that selecting Pay with points can show both regular tickets and award tickets. Look for the award identification in the results and read the ticket’s conditions; a flight priced in points is not automatically a fixed-price award.

Partner awards have a separate set of conditions. SAS’ current partner page specifies a one-way calculation that is not simply half of a return, identifies airlines with different points treatment, and applies partner booking fees. Check the exact carrier and direction before building a budget from a remembered round-trip figure.

Points + Cash is another route to using points against a regular SAS ticket. SAS says regular-ticket rules and benefits apply to those tickets. Compare the reduction in money due with the points spent, and keep the result separate from a capacity-controlled award with its own cancellation conditions.

How to book with EuroBonus points

Plan your trip using the current partner list and reward products. If you have a voucher or account benefit, establish its eligibility for the exact itinerary before assuming it will reduce the quoted points.

  1. Choose SAS or partner awards

For SAS flights, sign in and search with Pay with points, then identify designated award seats. For partner flights, use SAS’ partner award booking path and current supported airlines.

  2. Search the full passenger count

Try neighboring dates and the complete routing through any Scandinavian hub. Verify every leg is in the cabin you intended.

  3. Inspect the pricing rules

For partners, check one-way versus return pricing and any carrier exception. Include the booking fee, taxes and required cash payment in the comparison.

  4. Read ticket conditions

Distinguish award conditions from regular-ticket rules. Review cancellation, rebooking, point validity and the treatment of a mixed award-and-regular booking.

  5. Complete the booking

If the website or app restricts close-in issuance, follow the current official guidance. Finish payment and confirm the issued ticket before buying separate travel.

U.S. funding and current booking limitations

Rove’s official transfer list includes SAS EuroBonus, and AwardWallet covers the addition. This gives U.S. readers a specific funding path to investigate without assuming that a European American Express partnership exists for U.S.-issued Membership Rewards accounts. Verify the source program’s current terms and the exact award before transferring.

SAS currently warns that website bookings for its own award trips must be made at least three days before departure while booking changes are being introduced. Its notice says closer-in awards remain possible through the app when the EuroBonus member travels on the booking. Check that notice again for an imminent trip, because it describes a temporary operational limitation.

SAS’ current own-airline table lists a one-way Business award between Europe and North America at 60,000 points before taxes and fees. Partner rules differ: the current partner page identifies Air Europa, China Airlines and Vietnam Airlines as requiring double points, and partner one-ways use 60% of the return amount. Compare the correct product and live seat availability.

Check family benefits and connections at itinerary level

For family travel, price adults and children together through the intended award channel. SAS advertises child treatment and eligible card benefits for its own award seats, but those features should not be projected onto every partner product. Make sure the displayed reduction applies before moving points or paying for a qualifying product.

For a premium-cabin partner journey, inspect whether the desired cabin applies in each direction and whether the combination is permitted. SAS’ partner rules restrict mixing cabins within one direction. If you need a different return airport or an itinerary that cannot be assembled online, ask SAS to validate the complete booking and cash total first.

Common questions

Is every SAS flight priced in points an award seat?

No. SAS explains that its points search can show regular tickets as well as designated award tickets. Check the product label and fare conditions.

Do partner one-ways cost half of a return?

Do not assume that. The current SAS partner page specifies its own one-way calculation and carrier exceptions; use the live quote and current conditions.

Can I use old Star Alliance EuroBonus booking advice?

Verify it against the current partner directory. SAS’ current award guidance describes eligible SkyTeam partner bookings.
