Finnair Plus uses Avios for rewards. Finnair Classic awards have route-based pricing, while partner awards have separate charts and booking channels. Connections, surcharges and the chosen cabin deserve close attention.

Best for: Avios holders considering Finnair via Helsinki or checking Finnair Plus partner award options.

## At a glance

- Finnair Classic awards and Avios part payment are different products.
- Many connecting journeys are priced by flight, with a stated Northern Europe exception.
- Partner awards may require chat or customer service rather than the website.
- Check Avios linking eligibility, surcharges and change rules before funding.

## What does Finnair Plus let you book?

Finnair Plus is Finnair's loyalty program and uses Avios as its redemption currency. A Finnair Classic award is a ticket purchased with Avios under the program's award rules. Finnair also allows members to use Avios to reduce an eligible cash ticket's price; that payment option should be evaluated separately from a Classic award.

Finnair's official Classic-award page explains which flights qualify and lists Economy, Premium Economy and Business awards. When choosing a cabin, inspect the actual itinerary rather than expecting each route to offer every cabin. The program's published award page is a better reference for current inclusions and surcharges than an older article about the transition to Avios.

## Read Helsinki connection pricing carefully

Classic awards have fixed Avios prices for a given route under Finnair's published zones. Connecting flights are generally charged separately, with a specified exception for connections within the Finland and Northern Europe zone. The precise airports included in that zone matter; geographic intuition alone does not determine whether an extra Avios charge applies.

The published price is only part of the payment. Finnair also lists route-dependent surcharges, taxes and passenger fees, and the surcharge cannot be paid with Avios. Use a live search for the complete itinerary to see the total. If different cabins are combined, read the program's mixed-cabin rule rather than assuming a lower cabin on one leg reduces the overall price proportionally.

## Check the partner and the account holding your Avios

Finnair maintains a separate page for partner award flights and explains which partners can be booked online. For other eligible airlines, the page directs members to chat or customer service. An earning partnership does not by itself establish that every flight can be redeemed, so read the specific partner section before trying to build an itinerary.

Finnair Plus and the British Airways Club support linked-account Avios transfers under their current terms. This is useful for comparing two programs' offers, but it does not make their award charts or cash charges identical. Frequent Miler's June 2026 transfer guide covers the mechanics across Avios programs; the airline's own linking instructions control whether your accounts qualify.

## How to book with Finnair Plus Avios

Section URL: https://www.awardtool.com/learn/finnair-plus-guide#how-to-book

Use Finnair's Award flights tab for a Classic-award search. If AwardTool identifies a partner opportunity, verify both the current partner chart and the required booking channel.

1. **Sign in and choose an award search** Open Finnair's booking engine, select Award flights and sign in to your Finnair Plus account. Enter the actual dates and party size, then inspect the complete route through Helsinki where applicable.
2. **Inspect price and cabin** Check each flight's cabin and the full Avios requirement. Review surcharges, taxes, included baggage and seat-selection conditions in the official offer rather than transferring only the amount shown for one segment.
3. **Use the correct partner channel** For an eligible partner not offered online, contact Finnair through its listed chat or customer service route. Confirm the full itinerary, payment conditions and any service charge, then verify tickets after completion.

## Prepare funding and understand changes

U.S. travelers should check the live transfer menu of the bank account they plan to use. A direct transfer to Finnair and a bank transfer to another Avios program followed by an eligible airline-account transfer are different paths. Check names, account linking and processing terms at every step; do not assume a published promotion applies to both routes.

Finnair's award page contains restrictions on changes, mixed cabins and unused awards, and partner regulations can differ. Read the applicable fare conditions before payment, especially if a trip may need to change. When requesting support, provide the ticket number, operating airline and exact flight details. Keep any booking reference returned by the partner for seats and check-in arrangements.

## Common questions

### Are connections through Helsinki always included in one award price?

No. Finnair says connecting flights generally have separate Avios charges, with an exception for the specified Finland and Northern Europe zone. Check the official zone list and the complete itinerary quote.

### Can every partner award be booked online with Finnair Plus?

No. Finnair lists the airlines supported by its website and directs members to chat or customer service for other partner bookings. Verify the current instructions for the particular carrier.
