Chase vs. Capital One transfers: partners, ratios and award booking

Chase and Capital One overlap on several international airline programs. Chase lists direct transfers to United and Southwest, while Capital One lists additional international destinations, including JAL. Current issuer directories are more useful for today's rates than carrying forward a dated comparison's partner table.

THE QUICK ANSWER

At a glance

  • Aeroplan, Flying Blue, British Airways and KrisFlyer appear on both issuers' lists.
  • Capital One publishes multiple conversion ratios, including non-1:1 airline rates.
  • Chase's direct United access differs from booking a United flight through an international partner.
  • A travel-portal redemption and a loyalty-program transfer are separate options.

The table summarizes selected differences from the issuer pages reviewed in October 2026. It avoids treating an airline's alliance as a promise of award availability.

Capital One miles do not all transfer at the same rate

Capital One's January 2026 explanation distinguishes 1:1 partners from other rates. Its directory lists Emirates, EVA Air and JAL at 2:1.5, and JetBlue at 5:3. Those published differences mean the destination mileage amount alone cannot represent the amount of bank rewards spent.

Capital One also requires a minimum balance for a transfer and matching names on the rewards and loyalty accounts. Chase has its own eligible-card requirement and transfer increments. The current account's confirmation screen is the place to check the exact deduction, particularly if a promotion is involved.

What recent coverage adds, and what older tables can miss

Frequent Miler's September 2026 article discusses airline programs accepting several transferable currencies. It helps explain why international-program overlap can matter even when one bank lacks a direct relationship with the operating airline.

Older comparison posts can still explain the basic distinction between these currencies, but their partner counts, transfer ratios and temporary offers should not be carried into a current guide unchanged. In particular, current Capital One terms should replace an older table that describes all of its major airline transfers as 1:1.

Compare award transfers with the issuer's other travel options

Capital One describes both transfers and separate ways to redeem rewards for travel bookings or eligible recent travel purchases. Chase likewise offers a travel booking channel in addition to transfers. A portal flight uses that booking channel's price and conditions, rather than the award rules of an airline program.

For an award transfer, confirm the itinerary in the receiving loyalty program, check points and cash for all passengers, and read its change and cancellation terms. Neither a shared partner list nor a bank transfer holds seats. Capital One and Chase state that finalized transfers are one-way, so an unavailable award can leave points in the destination program.

This comparison concerns how existing rewards can fund a booking. Card fees, earning categories and welcome offers are separate account decisions and are not ranked here.

Common questions

Can Capital One miles go directly to United?

United is not listed in the Capital One directory reviewed. A United-operated award offered through a program such as Aeroplan is a different booking path, with that program's availability and terms.

Is every Capital One transfer 1:1?

No. Capital One publishes several different ratios; verify the destination-specific rate before comparing bank rewards costs.

Can I transfer Capital One miles back after canceling?

Capital One states that transferred rewards cannot be returned to the Capital One rewards account. Any canceled award is handled under the receiving program's rules.
