Asia Miles is the redemption currency of Cathay's membership program. You can use it for eligible Cathay Pacific and partner flight awards, but the award type, itinerary and current search result determine what you can book.

Best for: Travelers planning Cathay Pacific flights or comparing Asia Miles with other oneworld booking programs.

## At a glance

- Cathay-operated, partner and oneworld multi-carrier awards require different checks.
- Use the current official search instead of copying an older reconstructed award chart.
- A mixed cabin needs a segment-by-segment review before you accept the total.
- Confirm the permitted booking method and passenger eligibility before funding the account.

## What are Cathay Asia Miles?

Section URL: https://www.awardtool.com/learn/asia-miles-guide#what-is-asia-miles

Asia Miles are the rewards currency used for redemptions in Cathay's membership program. They can be earned through flights and eligible partners and redeemed for flight awards and other rewards. A Cathay membership account is the place to manage the balance and make an Asia Miles booking. The airline you fly does not have to be Cathay Pacific when an eligible partner award is available.

Keep the currency, airline and award type distinct. Spending Asia Miles on a partner is a Cathay-issued redemption; it does not move the miles into that partner's own program. Standard flight awards also differ from upgrades, companion awards and using miles as part payment. Select the product you intend to buy before comparing a displayed mileage amount.

## Which Asia Miles award rules apply?

Cathay's terms distinguish Standard Awards from oneworld multi-carrier awards. Standard Awards can involve a single carrier or an eligible mixed-carrier itinerary; additional carrier-combination and routing rules apply. A multi-airline trip is therefore not automatically a valid oneworld multi-carrier award. Confirm the construction with Cathay before relying on a total assembled from separate flight searches.

Recent coverage matters here. Australian Frequent Flyer reported on May 29, 2026 that Cathay adjusted award pricing effective May 1, following earlier revisions. The report also explains the limitations of publicly available charts. Older mileage tables can therefore misstate today's requirement. Use Cathay's current search or an agent's confirmed quote for the exact route and cabin, and keep independent reconstructed charts as dated context.

## Compare available cabins and complete journeys

Cathay's program terms state that flight awards are capacity controlled. A seat offered for cash, or through a different oneworld program, is not itself a confirmed Asia Miles award. Search using the actual number of travelers and inspect each segment rather than relying on the cabin label attached to the itinerary as a whole.

This is particularly important for a long-haul connection through Hong Kong. The short segment and the intercontinental flight can have different cabins, and the program's mixed-cabin calculation must be checked against the actual offer. Review the flight numbers and local departure dates, then compare the connection time and airport details with your travel requirements before paying.

## How to book a flight with Asia Miles

Use AwardTool to locate possible flights, then confirm the award through Cathay's official redemption channels. Cathay's help page directs members to its online booking service for its own awards and to a flight-award request form for other partner requests.

1. **Check the account and travelers** Sign in to Cathay and check your miles balance, membership details and any redemption-group requirements. Confirm the passenger's name before starting a bank transfer or submitting an award request.
2. **Search the applicable award** Use the flight-award search for the exact dates and party size. If the partner or itinerary cannot be completed online, use the official request or support channel and ask for current availability and a complete quote.
3. **Review and issue** Confirm miles, taxes, carrier charges, cabin on each flight and the relevant change or refund conditions. Complete payment and check for issued ticket numbers; an award request by itself does not establish a ticketed seat.

## Prepare transfers and later changes

For U.S. travelers, a transfer must be available from the particular rewards account you hold. Check the bank's current partner list and Cathay's receiving-account requirements, rather than assuming all cards with similar branding permit airline transfers. The account name, membership number, minimum increment and stated processing time belong in the transfer check. AwardTool's transfer-partner tool can help organize the options.

Before ticketing, review the rules for changing dates, changing the route and canceling an unused award. These are separate actions and may have different charges or eligibility. If a partner operates the flight, retain its record locator as well as Cathay's ticket reference. That allows you to check seats and flight details while keeping the issuing program clear for ticket servicing.

## Common questions

### Can I use an Asia Miles chart published before May 2026?

It may be useful historical context, but Cathay adjusted pricing in May 2026. Confirm the current miles requirement with Cathay for the exact itinerary instead of treating an older chart as a guaranteed quote.

### Is every trip on two oneworld airlines a multi-carrier award?

No. Cathay has specific rules for Standard and oneworld multi-carrier awards. The carrier combination, routing and applicable award type must satisfy its terms.
