Aeroplan and LifeMiles overlap on Star Alliance flights, but a search result, an award-chart price and a ticket that can actually be issued are different things. Compare the specific itinerary, required miles, cash charges and servicing conditions together.

Best for: Travelers with points that can reach Aeroplan or LifeMiles and a specific partner-operated flight to book.

## At a glance

- Recent LifeMiles reporting describes both attractive redemptions and inconsistent displayed inventory.
- Aeroplan uses a combination of chart pricing and variable select-partner pricing.
- A lower mileage total needs to be compared with all cash charges and the ticket rules.
- LifeMiles explicitly says partner award reservations cannot receive name corrections.

## What the recent redemption guides establish

The Points Guy's LifeMiles guide, dated October 12, 2026, describes the program's Star Alliance redemption opportunities and warns that displayed awards may not always be ticketable. It also notes that LifeMiles may omit space visible in other programs. Those observations mean that finding a flight through Aeroplan is a reason to check LifeMiles, rather than proof that LifeMiles can issue it.

The September 25, 2026 Aeroplan guide describes a hybrid of published partner award pricing and variable pricing for Air Canada and select partners. Air Canada's June 2026 chart announcement documents further changes. An earlier comparison built around a particular transatlantic business-class rate cannot be carried forward as a general price promise.

## A comparison table for a real partner award

The booking program determines the redemption being purchased. Compare the same operating airline and connection pattern before deciding whether a difference comes from the program or from a different trip.

## How to distinguish a lower price from unavailable space

Section URL: https://www.awardtool.com/learn/aeroplan-vs-lifemiles#availability-workflow

Run both searches with the actual passenger count, not one traveler as a proxy for a group. Compare flight numbers, local dates, airports and cabin on every segment. Record whether the entire itinerary appears on one ticket. Two separately displayed flights are not evidence that either program can sell them together at the sum of their individual prices.

If LifeMiles and Aeroplan disagree, keep the disagreement visible. One site might show no flight, another might offer a different connection, or a result might fail later in the process. The recent LifeMiles reporting supports checking ticketability instead of treating a result list as final confirmation. Use the program's official assistance channel for unresolved booking issues; do not move points solely because another program displays a seat.

## Cash, name accuracy and after-booking conditions

Section URL: https://www.awardtool.com/learn/aeroplan-vs-lifemiles#fees-changes-funding

Aeroplan's fee policy provides a specific partner booking fee and fare-dependent change and cancellation conditions. For LifeMiles, read the conditions accompanying the redemption and request clarification where the website does not state the servicing charge. A fee copied from an older third-party article should not be presented as the current fee for every cabin, route and channel.

Check passenger details before issuing a LifeMiles partner award: its official help center states that name corrections on partner reservations are not possible because of system restrictions. Also establish how a cancellation would return miles and which cash items would remain nonrefundable. A comparison that covers only the initial miles price omits those practical differences.

Travelers evaluating a simple partner flight can compare the two ticketable totals. Those building a stopover itinerary need a full routing comparison, while those with uncertain dates need the applicable change and refund terms. Finally, inspect the issuer's current transfer options and transfer increments. A displayed airline-mile saving may not be the same saving in the bank points required to fund the booking.

## Common questions

### Do Aeroplan and LifeMiles always see the same partner awards?

No. The October 2026 LifeMiles guide reports both missing inventory and phantom results. Confirm the itinerary through the program that will issue the ticket.

### Is the lowest miles price enough to choose a program?

Compare the cash total, traveler count, cabin on every segment, transfer requirement and cancellation conditions alongside miles. The two quotes must describe the same trip.

### Can a LifeMiles partner award name be corrected later?

LifeMiles' official help center says name corrections for partner reservations are not possible. Check the traveler's details before ticketing.
